The Balm of Gilead in scripture speaks of REPENTANCE and following the WAY of the GREAT PHYSICIAN, MESSIAH JESUS!
We first see this balm appear in Genesis 37 above, then two more times, first in Jeremiah 8:22, Is there no balm in Gilead, Is there no physician there? Why then is there no recovery for the health of the daughter of my people?”
Where Jeremiah uses the known medicine as a metaphor for spiritual healing through repentance for Israel. Then again in Jeremiah 46:11 where he says, “Go up to Gilead and take balm, O virgin, the daughter of Egypt; In vain you will use many medicines; You shall not be cured.”
Meaning, they could travel to find the best medicine but until they repented and sought the Lord for redemption from their sins, they would find no healing. The same is true today. Just look at America and you will find that most are sick and diseased in their sins, running to physicians for prescription pharma-but never being able to heal.
Most people grow old going from one pain, ailment, condition, surgery, or drug to the next, and so it goes until they die. This should NOT BE SO for people of YHWH because we have YESHUA, and by His stripes we are HEALED as we partake in His cross through REPENTANCE unto LIFE. The Balm of Gilead given by the King of Kings!
The word GILEAD in Pictorial Hebrew means: "Lift up His authority and teaching so that their eyes can see and understand the path." In other words, “Go into all the world and proclaim the gospel to the whole creation. Mark 16:15

Does this mean we shouldn't use or don't need any medicine? I don't believe so, we see many examples of natural medicine being used in scripture, even in the New Testament! God-given plants, food, fermentation, balms, oils, sunshine, and more are all gifts from our Creator that we should never take for granted. But we use them while seeking the spiritual roots for FULL HEALING in Jesus, with repentance. And THIS is why I love anointing oil SO MUCH. Because they are a prophetic act of FAITH that says, "I set myself apart for YOU, search me and know my heart, try me and know my thoughts, see if there be any wicked way in me and lead me in the way everlasting." (Psalm 139: 23-24)

Scholars debate whether the ancient Balm of Gilead came from the Pistacias Lenticus (Mastic tree), or the Commiphora Guidottii- aka, Sweet Myrrh, which is a cousin of Commiphora myrrha, the myrrh that was gifted to Messiah. It's commonly known as Opoponax.
I added both to my version of the Balm of Gilead, which was prayerfully created with Holy Spirit.
Pistacia lentiscus is a dioecious evergreen shrub or small tree of the genus Pistacia native to the Mediterranean Basin. It is cultivated for its aromatic resin, mainly on the Greek island of Chios, around the Turkish town of Çeşme, and northern parts of Iraq.
Medicinal uses: Anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, and antioxidant.
- -Inhibits pro-inflammatory cytokines and the arachidonic acid cascade
- -Soothes irritated skin, and enhances wound healing
- -Inhibits Staphylococcus aureus, E. coli, H. pylori, periodontal bacteria, and Candida

Sweet Myrrh/Opoponax
Medicinal uses-analgesic, anti-inflammatory, antiseptic, and more and is also used in perfumery. It's rich scent is reminiscent of vanilla and is on of my personal favorites in the essential oil world.

Copaiba Balsam-Balsam was an ingredient of the incense (ketoret) burned in the Tabernacle and was a costly, sought after oil. Today it is used as a healing agent for wounds and as an antidote to snakebite and the sting of scorpions! AMAZING! (Luke 10:19 Comes to mind!)
Calendula- hydrates, firms, fights acne, and can be used as a natural sunscreen.
Jojoba- cleanses, protects, heals and smoothes fine lines and wrinkles.
Olive- The spiritual meaning of olive oil goes SO DEEP! Most understand that olive oil is representative of the Holy Spirit. That alone is powerful and reason enough to include it! But it also moisturizes the skin, reduces signs of aging, fights oxidative stress, increases collagen, cleanses skin, fights acne, promotes wound healing and has anti-inflammatory properties.
Pomegranate Seed-Jewish tradition teaches that the pomegranate is a symbol for righteousness, because it is said to have 613 seeds which correspond with the 613 mitzvot or commandments of the Torah. Pomegranate is one of the seven species the spies brought back with them to show how fertile the Promised Land was. It speaks of God's favor exhibited in fruitfulness and abundance.
Rosehip Seed-is anti-aging, reduces sun spots, smooths and reduces acne scars & stretch marks and is anti-inflammatory.
Sweet Almond-can heal superficial skin burns, boost collagen production, keeps skin hydrated and supple, and protect against potential damage caused by UV radiation. Biblically, Almond blossoms were to be used as part of the Lord's instructions when building the temple Menorahs (Exodus 37:19) and almonds were plentifully and represented a hastening, maybe to obedience.
Each anointing oil also contains ethically sourced, pure mineral mica.
